Our motto is "Protect Today, Preserve Forever" Nantucket Soundkeeper is a program of the Alliance to Protect Nantucket Sound, a non-profit, environmental organization based in Hyannis, Massachusetts on Cape Cod. The Alliance was formed in 2001 to protect and preserve Nantucket Sound from industrial development. Its leadership and membership include environmental, business, and government professionals, and thousands of concerned citizens. Our goals include: * Protecting Water Quality Major Programs: SOUND PATROL. Nantucket Soundkeeper is a nonprofit, citizen-based, water patrol organization whose special responsibility is to be the public advocate and steward for the Sound. Our visible presence on the water sends the message that Nantucket Soundkeeper is patrolling the waterway and dealing with the water pollution issues or misuse that are important to the community. Part investigator, scientist, lawyer, lobbyist, and public relations agent, the Nantucket Soundkeeper Patrol Boat serves as a physical extension of our advocacy assuring the citizenry's right to a healthy marine environment. NANTUCKET SOUND WATER QUALITY COLLABORATIVE In 2006, Nantucket Soundkeeper entered into a monitoring collaborative to assess the health of the Sound's waters and habitats, to guide Sound-wide management planning, and to promote local community stewardship of Nantucket Sound. This is the first comprehensive monitoring program undertaken for Nantucket Sound.
